From what I hear, Dakota's side of the story is that EEI was looking to kill his show and told the Red Sox what he said about Francona and Hazel Mae on the air.  The Sox threatened a slander suit against the Zone and Sporting News.  Apparently to avoid this the Zone agreed to stop accepting Dakota's parking meter style payments and showed him the door.

Pioli has been a hot name floating around the GM rumor mill this season, but he reiterated yesterday that he will fulfill his contract with New England at least through the 2006 draft, even though he can, under rules set by the Commissioner's Office, leave for a job that gives him decision-making power. In doing so, he may be forgoing as much as twice as much money in salary.

Q. Nick, thanks for the great work on the mailbag! I read last weekend that Scott Pioli wants to stay in New England at least through 2006. As a Pats fan, I think that's great, but what is he thinking? Why wouldn't he want to go somewhere else and run his own team? He'll never get any credit in New England as long as Belichick is here. A. Ken, a veteran NFL observer who happens to have the cubicle next to mine thinks that Belichick has brainwashed Pioli into staying in New England as a thinly veiled shot at Pioli's father in law, Bill Parcells. Pacells is very close with his daughter and is concerned about her financial security, which will never be all it can be as long as Pioli is working for the frugal Patriots. Even with all of his success, Belichick is very jealous of Parcells, and controlling the mind of his former mentor's son-in-law is no doubt very alluring to Belichick. Makes sense to me.

I agree. Somebody is wrong, but no intrepid reporter seems interested in calling the league office to actually find out what the rule is. Last time I heard J. Kraft, he was still saying Scott can't leave even if he wants to. Again, someone here is mistaken.

The Pats believe that language in Pioli's contract prevents him from taking a GM job with another team because he is considered a ``high-ranking team official.'' Why wasn't Perkins playing in the 3rd qtr when there up by 27. The guy is only going to get better by playing and not practicing against Blount every day.
