I got in for the last 45 seconds of the Favre Scrub-a-thon last night. Madden and Michaels were waxing poetic on how great a human being our hero was. Madden mentioned that Brett had been involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation (admirable) and that he "didnt want it publicized" (HIGHLY questionable) John then said that what impressed him most was that, not only did Favre meet the children, but that he "actually spoke to them". Well Jesus Christ, I should hope so. I didnt expect that Brett would have scooped up the little tykes and taken them all home with him to Tippytoe, Loozy-anna or wherever the f**k he's from, but I dont think "actiually talking to them" would tax him too much. It may sound too mean and not for everyone to rip Brett for charity, but my problem is with his alleged "reticence" to publicize his many good works for mankind. It seems to me that Brett is popping up every week on one NFL pre-game show or another, telling us about the many crosses he has to bear while making this big blue marble a better place for you and me. Christ, Kevin Millar is tougher to get for an interview than Favre. Besides, if Favre is such a shrinking violet and wants his charity work to stay under wrapps, than who told John Madden about it, knowing damned well that he would turn right around and let 15 million viewers in on "the secret".
Also, about last night's game, Mike Sherman should never wear the yellow sweatshirt and little yellow hat combo again. He looked like the choo-choo conductor at a g-ay amusement park.
I sent in a whine about John Dennis yesterday and it didnt make it. Either they're burying the story, or the whine just sucked. :D
Bad news for the Celtics if they are trying to win back the casual fan: I forgot there was even a game last night until I saw the final score on the roof of a cab. :P

The result: Parent Sporting News Radio apparently played the heavy in having WWZN general manager Mike Winn pull the plug on the show, which was a time-buy by Dakota.
"I'm the demo radio is seeking," said Dakota. "I'm a 35-year-old guy who is doing OK for himself. I was going to put what appeals to me on my show."
That didn't play well at Fenway.
"We made our opinion heard loud and clear," said Sox PR director Glenn Geffner. "The show crossed the line into getting personal."

The development is sad because it represents an error in judgment that brought down a program that had shown promise. Even WEEI had taken notice, adding a stock report (something Happas instituted along with traffic) to some sports flashes.
"I would have loved to have seen it work out, but unfortunately it didn't," said Winn.
Sounds like Rusillo has a clue and knows how to protect himself.

If it's Tuesday it must be Belgium. . . a big shout out to all the BSMW expatriots today - let's keep these guys informed.
LJ, Bombay John wasn't even in early, I listened to the first 1/2 hour on the way to work. KKKallahan and Metergerbil alluded that he had a late night, quickly followed by the sound of tinkling ice cubes. So Meter was co-hosting the early part of the show. They took advantage of his absence by going through the Bill James book, knowing the Dennis would not want to go over that while he was there.

I'm not buying that the Sox had a direct impact on getting him pulled. D&C's efforts against Garciaparra the past few years (well prior to the trade) should have bothered the Sox more (if the Francona thing is so ridiculous, wouldn't Terry have gotten a laugh out of it -- I know my wife and I would if anyone suggested that an attractive young woman was having an affair with me).
Is what Dakota said that different than the amount of time spent on D&C a few years ago attempting to figure out who was g*y after the article in "Out" magazine (I'm still laughing about Mike Adams' flash that day, "Tough night for Mike Piazza last night. Got caught in a "pickle".) Or their constant insinuations about Jeff Garcia.

If the Sox tried to quash all criticism of the team's performance on the field, or their attitudes in the locker room, then I'd agree that that would be wrong.
But when a pay-as-you-go amatuer host decides to spread personal and vicious rumors about not only the Sox manager but also a co-host on NESN, for reasons that have nothing to do with sports, then I think that crosses the line. Let's face it, Dakota was on thin ice from the get-go since they never really hired him, just allowed him to pay for the air time.

Theoretically speaking, wrecking Garciaparra's ability makes it easier for the team to not re-sign or trade him if part of the fan base thinks he's deeply flawed, while they presumably want to hang onto Francona. More importantly, the degradation as it pertains to Nomar is about what happens on the field(though we know that a lot of the running down of Nomar was and still is fueled by off field interactions he had with the media). The Francona thing is totally out of bounds.

Was that within ten days of the vote of confidence?
When you see the names of his coordinators, and candidates to temporarily replace him (Terry Robiskie and Dave Campo), you begin to understand why he failed as a coach. From everything I know about those two, particularly their stints as head coaches, they are useless.

I think Dakota needs better writers.
"I may be the demo radio is seeking, but I'm an idiot," said Happas. "I was able to parlay my dubious status as a 'Superfan' into a five day a week radio show, admittedly one I had to pay for myself, but still."
"But then I turned right around and blew it," continued the disgraced celebrity caller. "I suppose a little common sense would have told me you can't take half-baked rumors and speculate wildly about them, especially on the radio. But then, if I had any common sense, I would have never put those KFFL guys on the air."
"In a way, its for the best," said Happas. "I really don't know all that much about sports anyway. Certainly not any of the major ones."

Today's firing of Cleveland Browns head coach Butch Davis will set off a chain of events that will reduce the world champion New England Patriots to a smoldering pile of rubble, the Globe has learned.

You could at least use up some minutes on his cell phone. The guy is down, let's kick him.

I hope Hazel Mae is calling him every hour on the hour to spew righteous indignation at him.
He's been flushed.

I say we let him join the site for a few days to stomp on him so he moves to either South or North Dakota and sets up a betting website with the "Great Gamere."

EEI would have to notice his show before they decide to kill it. File under, "Skeptical."
It's all a plot, yeah, that's the ticket. They were out to get me, yeah.

I'm shocked that the NBA is becoming irrelevant. With marketing like this aimed at the prison population and moments like the Pacers brawl 2 weeks ago you would think the arenas would be filled every night.

I can see how you'd think that, but it's not the case...they've been around for a while, even though they have received a lot of attention the last couple of years they have been around since like 97/98, they formed when they were teenagers
