98.5 talking hockey this morning and about high draft picks coming in and contributing immediately as rookies. Wallach mentioned Joe Thornton and Sergei Samsonov as productive first year players. Ugh, he'd be half right on that one.

At this point, I am resigned that the B's don't feel they're going anywhere. I'll end up saving money on playoff tickets, at least.
Now, I want them to move bloated payroll. Please find homes for TT and Ryder.

They are going to have major problems with season ticket renewals. The older accounts with grandfathered prices (I'm assuming that will still be the case) will re-up, but most of the newer accounts with the higher pricing will throw the invoice in the trash.

Shabby reporting. Were the Pats to actually release Thomas (rather than say trade him), wouldn't the "Final Four" rule pretty much preclude Thomas from landing with the Jets unless either he takes a huge pay cut, or the Jets lose a free agent of equal stature?

Since his stature appears to be somewhere near the veteran minimum at this point, I'm not sure that provision would necessarily matter.

Wasn't Thomas close to signing with San Fran prior to signing with the Pats? Trade him there for a draft pick. It doesn't even have to be the NFL draft.

18" to 24", making it three snowfalls in a week. If I shovel tonight and tomorrow it will be 5 of the last 8 days. I thought I moved away from Boston to get away from the snow.
Combine that with the trade and it'll make the decision whether or not to attend tonight's Caps-Thrashers game very easy.

I apologize in advance to SJH and Ironhead if I infringe on their panic or dismissal schticks, but I sense a long sarcastic day ahead of me.

If I somehow hadn't already reached my +1 limit, then I'd +1 this
even Sturm (who I like), if they can find a buyer

Listen to T&R. They are writing the Bruins obituary right now.

Also, the restrictions only last until June (July?). If Adalius wanted to go to the Jets bad enough to wait, they could sign him without worrying about the money.

I was pissed off beyond belief last night, but this morning I am in a better place, because it's clear they're not going to tease us with hints of a playoff run this year.
It will be very interesting to see if Chia sticks with the "3 points out of the playoffs" edge, or if he'll conclude that the team isn't winning anything as currently constructed and starts preparing for next year. I want the latter, but suspect he'll cling to the former for the time being.
At what point do you have to consider dumping Julien? He's not on the ice so he's not entirely to blame, but a coach's job is to stem the tide in situations like this, and he hasn't been able to do it. Ken Hitchcock got the Jackets to the playoffs last year and just got canned because he couldn't get the team out of a long stretch of bad play; Claude is facing a similar situation.

I would agree with him that Nomar always struck me as a bitter prick, but could he be any more wrong on the media sucking up to him, especially by the end of his tenure here?
And Nomar was great when he first came up. Until the steroids killed him.

Even during the shootout last night, Edwards is screaming "he's got a great shot!" so, of course, shiit for brains tries to deke the goalie and cleverly pushes the puck into his pad. Genius.
I can't believe I started buying into his bullshiit when he scored some goals last year. I should have stuck with my first instincts:

It smells a lot like when the Sox panicked and brought in Steve Avery years ago.

Coach can only do so much. The GM hasn't done a thing to bring in different players to shake things up. Paille in and Kobasew out early on (which is a plus move considering what Paille has done for the PK and that Kobasew has been injured again) and then adding Satan off the scrap heap. The rest of the patches have been AHL guys that either never were, never will be or at least aren't right now ready to do anything meaningful.
I wonder how much of the complacence from the front office is based on the various injury situations. They obviously can't be pleased with Thomas' play, or Ryder and Wideman and probably Wheeler as well. But I'd assume guys the in and out lineup and the lack of production of guys like Chara, Lucic and Krejci isn't something they necessarily view as what will happen in the future once those guys get better physically. I guess what I'm saying is while some of us might say @!&% this, blow it up, they're probably thinking they hit a rough patch with guys like Savard, Bergeron, Stuart missing significant time and those other guys fighting nagging injuries and don't want to blame the coach for not getting more out of guys who don't have more to give.
I think they can both try to compete and plan for next year - if they think their core guys are going to get healthier. I've said before they should be trying to unload Morris for something because he has largely played pretty well but he's not going to be worth a long term contract at the dollars he'll likely command. Sturm has a no trade clause so he'll be hard to move, but could be attractive. He and Ryder each have another year left on their deals but he costs a bit less and is at least more productive in other areas in addition to scoring. Recchi could also be a candidate to be moved as a cheap vet addition like they made last year. Issue is they have a lot of picks already and getting some picks for guys like that doesn't do a whole lot. You're also gonna get someone else's junk back if you want them to take Ryder or Sturm's salary on their books for next year.

He's a high speed skater and a finisher, don't you know?
Right now, he's not even the best Nazi in Boston. He's running third behind Vollmer and Gerry Callahan.
He's got to be a West German cause at least if he were an East German he'd have good drugs and would fight someone.

I'll always have a ton of fond memories of Nomar here. The guy was a blast to watch until, as you so astutely point out, the roids killed him. I saw him hit his first career GS at Fenway (against Seattle, I think).
