Chad Jackson cut, per Reiss.

What a waste of a pick. They gave him every chance to produce too.

I'd like to think they had their eye on Demeco Ryans, and settled for Jackson after Houston scarfed him up. I still remember my heart sinking after Demeco was off the board. Every time I saw Alabama that year he was in the mix on every defensive play and all I could think about was how good he'd look in a Pats uniform. I'd have been ok if the Pats picked Ryans over Maroney in the first round.

I would guess they'll be signing a defensive back with the Jackson spot. Probably someone cut from another team. Hank Poteat was released by the Jets after a couple rookie corners impressed. Corners Dovonte Edwards, Kiwaukee Thomas, Dexter Wynn are other guys who were cut yesterday who they may consider because they have some experience.

You gotta love that the P-Jag refers to himself as "laser show".

O'Brien said he was waiting for Papi to come into the clubhouse to show him the lineup.

Only saw the replays of last night's game, but I  PJ's head-first slide into second where he pulls his left arm up and avoids the tag, then plants it on the bag a split second before they tag his left shoulder.

Seems to be a temporary move. Looks like he'll be brought back after the first game when veterans' salaries aren't guaranteed for the season.

Vince Redd, Richardson and Antwan Spann all made it through to the practice squad which seems like a good thing.

This just in.

We’ve received news from a reliable news source, that would like to remain anonymous (initials E.B. who is a writer for the _______ News), that Tom Brady will likely be missing between two and four weeks of the regular season.

Ahmad Brooks got cut from the Bengals today. I was hoping that the Pats would draft him back in the 2006 supplemental draft. Shows how much I know

They'd never announce that now. They'll list him as questionable every week and sit him if he can't go. Big fantasy daft implications though for me Monday Night and I know that's your concerns. ;)

Supposedly the Pats claimed a tight end from the Jets and a lineman from the Rams. Watson must not be ready (though you wonder why they couldn't just get by with Spach and Thomas for a few weeks....with Vrabel on goalline). The lineman is likely because Hochstein and Connolly are still banged up, per Reiss.

The Lynch press release has "hes going to be around" solidly planted between the lines.

Faldo picked Paul Casey and Ian Poulter as his Ryder wild cards.

Now 'Zinger has a few days to get Darren Clarke, Karl Petterson and Mike Weir naturalized.

Any golf fans have any advice for me tomorrow? I'm headed to Norton. I plan to watch the fourth hole for some time (it is an eagles bonanza), but can anyone recommend a fun golfer (besides Phil, who I dislike) to follow in the early going?

In NFL news, Eugene Wilson got cut.

Reiss:

Quote

The Patriots have claimed tight end Jason Pociask off waivers from the Jets, according to Rich Cimini of the New York Daily News.

The Patriots have Benjamin Watson, David Thomas and Stephen Spach on the roster at tight end. Watson has recently been held out practice due to an undisclosed injury.

Quote

The Patriots have claimed offensive tackle Mark LeVoir off waivers from the St. Louis Rams, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports today (see last line of story).

LeVoir, who played in college in Notre Dame, has not appeared in an NFL game.

The Patriots had just six linemen at practice today, and have just eight on the final roster. LeVoir makes nine.

Although I've caught the disaster that is EGA's radio show a few times in recent years, I hadn't heard the opening until tonight. What an abomination that sullies the original "Sports Huddle". Embarrassingly unfunny. If his kids weren't sucking off his tit, they'd have an intervention. Of course, Eddie follows the opening by stating that Tom Brady is god and the Pats would go 9-7 without him (way to make a statement) and what a good take the TCP (sic) in Norton is this weekend.

Mike Weir can't play for the European team.

And Mickelson is not playing tomorrow(they do a second cut).

Woody Austin and Angel Cabrera are playing in the same pairing. If not the leaders, that is who I would follow.

Yes, I am very bitter about him completely quitting at the Canadian Open. If he had just pared in the last 3 holes, I wouldn't have to be sweating Mike Weir tomorrow for $1,200.

Of course not -- they've already filled out their roster so it wouldn't make sense for him to emigrate to Scotland now. We can still make it happen.

On Friday morning, Eric Kosilius (filling in for one of the Mikes) noted that either South Florida or West Virginia could be in position for the national title as the season wound down. Todd McShay (filling in for the other Mike) immediately cut in and dismissed this because "Pitt will win the Big East."

On a related note, Al Groh continues to demonstrate that he is not the right person to lead the UVA program. Remarkably lucky last year with a number of one and two point wins.

According to EGA, Swishy has had so many girlfriends he (EGA) refers to them by number, the latest being 106.

When WILL Eddie reveal what happened to Natalee Holloway?

Was there a suspicion when Swishy's new "friend" revealed "her" name to be "Alexa Beard"?

The guy who knew nothing about sports was Julie Kahn.

The last one .... I got nothin'.

For how many more years can Jerry Lewis pulled the old "I gotcha ya nose" trick. The scientist have "beenthisclose" to solving the puzzle, they just need another 500 million.

EGA also said that the Pats can't bank on beating Miami twice this year as they are now a "Bill Parcells coached" team. Of course none of the three nut-ticklers sitting with him made a correction.

Can't really root for the reporters that they've all sent down to get swept away, but I suppose I can root for them to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in camera equipment.

Crappy that Sabathia will need review for a no-hitter, but that was clearly an error.

If the Pirates already had a hit in the game I'm sure the fans, announcers and Sabathia himself would have disagreed with an error call. I'm not a fan of Monday Morning official scoring just because it would give the guy a no-hitter.

For the record, I think it was a hit.

I remember a Nolan Ryan game from the late 70's, I believe (it may have been on ABC's Monday Night Baseball), where Rick Miller was given an error late in the game to keep Ryan's no-hitter alive. The "error" was coming up short while diving for a ball that not even Willie Mays in his prime would have caught.

I'm convinced the networks are rooting for a Katrina-like disaster.

It's not the media per se. A lot of the reporters (and -- more to the point -- their camera operators, producers, etc. who are in just as much jeopardy but get no "onscreen" time) are facing the storm down long after the evacuation orders. Kudos for them.

I think it may be "News Director" judgment. The incoming storm... the ability to pull footage from Katrina, etc. makes it a much easier story to focus on (unless you are part of the Shelby Scott Brigade). Conventions are dull. Check. Go with the more eyeball-friendly story. Check.

The one "news manipulation" aspect is that Republicans get a smokescreen to avoid their second-least-wanted photo-op: McCain and Bush hugging. They also got out of a high-profile Cheney appearance.

They always do. It takes no intelligence to cover it. Just turn on the cameras and sit back. The ratings are always good because people like to see other people getting fu*ked over. I'm convinced of that.

Happy Labor Day.

Labor Day always made me sad, as it was the end of summer and school started in a few days. To this day, I can't watch the Jerry Lewis Telethon as it brings back feelings of dread.

I'm also hungover, so that ain't helping neither....

You gotta think on one level that the Dems are hoping the Bush admin. screws this one up like they did Katrina.
