Len P. says Pats may cut Willie. It's an Insider article though...just saw headline.

And Jets supposedly shopping Abraham.

According to NFL radio the Packers are seriously interested in Adam V.

My recollection of Fortson was that he seemed to pick up 2 fouls every time he took his warm ups off.

D.T. wins the award for best memory of a 35 win team!

55 856 6.5 12.4 0.0 0.0 6.5 8.8 6.6 10.5 17.1 1.4 0.9 0.2 3.1 8.4 19.6

The 8.4 is his fouls per 40 minute average. Look at his pts and rebounds per 40 though. This is the same guy the following year in Golden State when he played 37 minutes a game averaged 16.7 pts and 16.3 rebounds per game, along with 3.9 fouls per.....I always believed, and he has proven this point over time, that if he knows he has to play 30 plus minutes per game he doesn't thug it up and actually plays strong defense without hacking the crap out of the opposition.

Who would know? Pitino practically refused to play the guy so I didn't get to see him play much at all. Remember the Celtics had Walker playing the PF position, even if he was pretty fricken' far from a POWER forward. 15 minutes a night in 2/3s of the season didn't show me enough, but you are correct. I did overlook Mr. Fortson. How could we expect Fortson to crack the lineup over Vitaly Potapenko or noted glue guy, Eric Williams. Kenny Anderson took 220 3 pointers in 2000. Kenny freakin' Anderson, he of the non existent MID range jumper, let alone a long range jumper.

At the time I always wanted Fortson to play because the team couldn't buy a rebound and I was intrigued by the thought that he could rebound so well despite his lack of size or any kind of jumping ability. Little did I know that the guy plays like he's paid per foul, as Thirdkill points out. It's been funny to follow the quotes out of Seattle after the refs have basically run him and his goonish style of play right out of the league.

I mostly wanted to take issue with your harkening back to Easy Ed, but then I realized that you were probably right. Rebounding hasn't been highly valued in these parts for a long time.

I don't think that Fortson is a goon on purpose. It's almost like he can't help himself or lacks the requesite motor skills neccessary to control his huge frame.

Well, he comes from the Bob Huggins School Of Gangsta Ball, not to be confused with any school of etiquette or diplomacy. Ruben Patterson, Thug-Mart, and Nick Van Jerxel are some other fine alma mater from Cincy.

I sort of know what you mean, but he utilizes the "pull my man down on top of me to try to draw a foul when I'm actually keeping him off the boards" technique too often for it to be an accident in my book. Crazy (or, in this case, uncoordinated) like a fox.

Scary moment in the car while I was out. Pete Shepherd and I shared a thought at the exact same moment. The circumstances were these: Maria Stephanos, that little trollop from Ch. 25, was on with the boys to further pimp the whiney awards because God knows they dont get enough promotion. Anyway, she was showing off her single digit wonderlic by laughing hysterically at everything the boys were saying when it occurred to me, and apparently Pete at the same time, "she laughs like Betty Rubble". I was startled to hear Pete say it. And its true. She might come in a nice package but that laugh would send you running for the exit in no time.

I remember Maria from last year's show. This hard hitting journalist was wiggling her *** at the assembled multitude like she was on the main stage at Alex's. I expected them to bring out a pole for her at any minute. Remember that the next time you see an ad for Fox25's "great journalism".

I like the per-48s or per-40s. That gives you a good indication of what a player would do over the course of the entire game, warts and all. I really like Hollinger's PER rating as his doesn't differentiate between bench players with short minutes and starters. Basically the normal PER rating is heavily slanted towards starters but Hollinger's somehow factors in minutes and gives a better idea of how a player would do if he got the minutes.

Per-48s are still the best for my liking though because it shows what a player does for the course of a single game.

Three places I go to get all my stats from previous years:

www.basketball-reference.com
www.82games.com (great defensive breakdowns and in depth statistical analysis--basically a SoSH playground for hoops junkies)
www.basketballreference.com

Of the two basketball reference sites I like the one with the dash better as their PER ratings seem to use the Hollinger approach and they do per 40s instead of per 48s. I think it is more telling of what a guy can do in 40 minutes as very few players play more than that nightly. Iverson, Bryant, Lebron, Pierce, Marbury, Walker (in green) are some of the few that pop into my head but they are the exception, not the rule. The better players in the league hover around 38 minutes per game. I checked this out and over the past 6 seasons on average only 9 guys get to 40 minutes or more average per season. And above I gave you 5 of the perennial ones.

Awesome stuff... thanks...

Since you live in Denver has it struck you as odd that ALL of the above mentioned players, including Fortson and Kenny Saterfiled ALL played for the Nuggets at one point? Fortson was drafted by the Nuggets and played 2 seasons there. Van Exel got sent there from LA. Martin signed the big contract. Saterfield was drafted by them and Patterson was just traded there. Kiki must love him some Huggy-bear players.

He's got a man crush on Bob Huggins...isn't that adorable?

Jon Kraft on FSN:

If he was a betting man, he'd say there would be a new CBA by Wednesday afternoon.

Sure sounded like there was a wink-wink deal with Adam V contingent on the CBA. Strongly stated his and everyone's hopes that Willie McGinest will be back and be a Patriot for his whole career. He says he believes Willie wants it that way too.

On NFL radio they quoted Jerry Jones as saying the same thing about a new CBA.

From Molori

Quote

FSN’s Dickerson trashes weeknight rival

Last Friday on WEEI’s “Dennis and Callahan” show, FSN “New England Sports Tonight” (NEST) host Greg Dickerson verbally bashed and belittled Ed Berliner, host of CN8’s “Sports Pulse.”

Dickerson’s show airs weeknights at 6:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. This week, the program debuts a new stadium themed set and will be renamed “Mohegan Sun Sports Tonight.” The new set features 16 high definition plasma monitors, a virtual fish tank, vintage sports artifacts and modern sporting goods.

Berliner’s show is on opposite Dickerson and Tanguay at 10:00 p.m. On WEEI, Dickerson and Gerry Callahan verbally jibed Berliner. Callahan jokingly wondered on what channel Berliner’s show runs. Both Callahan and Dickerson compared Berliner to Ron Burgundy, Will Ferrell’s witless character from the movie “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”

Dickerson mocked Berliner’s deep voice and deliberate style, doing a spot on impression of the CN8 personality asking Red Sox GM Theo Epstein a question. Both Callahan and Dickerson compared Berliner unfavorably to fictional TV anchorman Ted Baxter.

Dickerson stated, “Ted Baxter is an Emmy Award winning anchor compared to Ed Berliner.” He and Callahan also mocked Berliner for attracting lesser-known guests than Dickerson’s show. NEST pays guests an appearance fee while “Sports Pulse” generally does not. Yours truly has been a guest on both programs.

Dickerson’s comments were simultaneously humorous and harsh. It’s not new for rival hosts to poke fun at each other, but Dickerson directed his venom directly at Berliner.

In the past, when WEEI and AM 1510 were battling for the sports audience in Boston, both station’s personalities regularly alluded to each other, but seldom named names.

Berliner refused to elaborate in response to Dickerson’s tirade, but did say that there was no particular incident that led to Dickerson’s on-air bashing. Regarding Dickerson, Berliner would only say, “I don’t respond to petty jealousy.”

All these guys should just go live on an island together and have it out Lord of the Flies style... Although if they invite John Dennis it might just turn into Blue Lagoon for closeted fat middle aged white guys

While looking at Sams post about the Sports Dick he should shut up and thank god he has a job doing what his is doing. Before FSN the Dick was playing slap tag with fellow nerd Johnny Wallach on the weekends and the PA guys for the C's. Now he thinks he's Edward R Murrow.

If Tom Werner had anyballs he'd get serious and put a real show on NESN and blow the Sports Dick out of the water. Then if really felt like it by a radio station and destroy EEI.

Now that my friends would be cool!

While everyone agrees we are watching greatness with Tom Brady and this Patriots team we also have to realize we are reading greatness 3 to 4 times a week.

I'm taking about Bob Ryan. He may lay an egg occasionally but there is no better sports writer in this town period. He has written some great columns about the Olympics and while having to write the Bode ones he is giving us insite to the games, the city and the athletes.

It's easy to see that Ryan loves sports and doesn't need to get caught up in the negativity that can go along with them. On the other hand the Herald decides to send Box Scores favorite columnist, Karen G, who has chuned out column after column describing the failures of the Americans in a style paying homage to the crap masters Suckley and CHB.

The media only has to look in the mirror to realize why the players hate them.

Speaking of which, Callahan is such a jackass. When Mark Loretta was on last week and was talking about how excited he was to meet Doris Kearns Goodwin, Callahan kept blathering about how she was a plagarist. Loretta didn't even blink and repeated that he was looking forward to meeting her. I wonder if Callahole thought to warn Loretta away from Barnicle.

Am I a bad person for thinking that something just isn't quite right about this Jill Carroll thing?

I haven't watched the WWE or wrestling in general in about 10 years I think but I just saw the first 2 minutes of tonights RAW. I have to tell you this McMahon "Kiss My ***" club bit was extremely funny. I was laughing out loud at watching some guy get his face jammed into Vince's rectum.....rectum, damn near killed him.

On another note, I didn't think it was okay to show some guy getting his salad tossed on TV at 9 pm, or any other time when not on Showtime or whatever. :o

I liked that Dickless said that Berliner was like the guy from Anchorman  sports dick is one step up from cable access.

A preview of Angry Bill's tirade against Dale Arnold tomorrow morning around 7 AM:

1. Mention John & Gerry by name three times (credit a weekend poster for picking that up)
2. Take shot at "Eddie from Lynnfield"
3. Glorify "the greatest caller in the history of talk radio," Butch from the Cape
4. Praise all things from the Republican side of view
5. State he wasn't afraid to take on Pete Sheppard
6. Get in jab at former Judge Maria Lopez
7. Bring up that he was the first person to acknowledge Belichick as a great coach
8. Call Dale Arnold a house man for the Bruins

This turd actually thinks he's created a superfan character that Jason Wolfe will want to put on the air, much like JT the Brick went from a Jim Rome caller to a host.

I'd rather spoon Mike Schuster for a night at the Westwood Motor Lodge than sit next to Angry Bill in box seats at a Red Sox - Yankees game.

The people holding her will release her if the dollar amount is right.

the thing on wgbh hd now? i admit it. i'm watching it.

i did catch some of the new FSN show tonight. i must have missed the virtual fish tank. the new set does nothing to make the show better. tanguay tried to come off as if he understood the mechanics of pitching. hard for me to believe he really knows anything about pitching.

angry bill will say, "john and gerry" more than three times on his next call. it will go over 5.

Thankfully, I haven't seen it.

Too bad Dale will take probably take the high road during the crossover.

There is also a good chance he'll refer to some "project" he's working on, implying big things with famous people are ahead of him.

On the Tomase front - anyone hear him say that he "thought" Julian Tavarez had "beat up a chick or two" in the past? Not sure of the exact wording but "chick" was the word (what is this, Happy Days?) and there was definitely an accusation of beating. A quick google doesn't turn up anything about any sort of arrest of Tavarez - Has he been arrested/accused before or is Tomase full of it?

Yes. This was quickly backtracked by Tomase, who said something like "I think, I'm not sure." To which Felger said jokingly "Yeah, maybe that's something you should look into before you throw it out there."

I think Angry Bill just broke down in tears defending his rants against the media.

Dale, you make a grown man cry.
