But so far, we learn tomorrow is the anniversary of it and at least 2 other references to it that I have heard. That is 3 references through 6 1/2 innings at least. Ridiculous. I mean, next week is the anniversary of the Bill Mazeroski home run that beat the Yankees in the 1960 World Series. Think we'll get any mentions of that? Because right now, its about as relevant as a home run in 1978. Give it a rest McCarver and Buck.

I remember screaming at the TV last year during game 4 or 5 of the ALCS when Manny took a 3-0 pitch right down the middle all the way from Rivera in the bottom of the 9th in a newly tied game and a man on second. That was the easiest pitch that any Sox hitter would ever see from Rivera, and they only needed a hit from their best hitter.
I don't mind how the Sox have conducted their offense this year, aside from Millar's inexplicable playing time. They've run when appropriate, been patient when appropriate, have a few guys who can bunt, etc.
Last year's team at the beginning of the year was far too rote in their adherence to conservative-ball until the trades that brought in Roberts and Mientkiewicz. I remember being stunned when the Yankees had to play Sheffield at 3rd late in a tight game (maybe the Jeter dive game?) and the Red Sox wouldn't consider throwing a bunt at him when he looked absolutely awful fielding his position.
Teams can go too far the other way. The second world championship Marlins team was even more reckless than this year's ChiSox at the beginning of the season. Even Derrek Lee was acting like a speed demon. They fired their manager and calmed down.
All things being equal, I'd rather be the team who is capable of doing those things than the team who is incapable of doing it.

Buck mentioned that in passing about maybe holding Mussina back if Cleveland loses today.
They'd be in for sure if they win today and Cleveland loses. No chance of a 3 way tie, so they could theoretically go with a random starter.
Given the Sox history against no-names, I'll take my chances with an injured Mussina.

Bottom line: "In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is."

Pitching for the Yankees: Randy Johnson
Batting for the Red Sox: Edgar Renteria
Neither was on his respective team last year.
